How to reset your Instagram Reels recommendations on iPhone (2026)
Instagram has a Reset suggested content option under Content preferences. It clears your recommendations across Explore, Reels and Feed so they start fresh. It cannot be undone, it does not change who you follow, and it does not delete your data. After a reset, recommendations personalize again based on what you interact with, so the same kinds of Reels can come back. If what you want is fewer Reels at all, use the Following feed or hide Reels for free in minulo.

How to reset suggested content on Instagram
- Go to your profile and tap the menu at the top right.
- Under What you see, tap Content preferences.
- Tap Reset suggested content, then Next.
- Follow the steps. You can review the accounts you follow and unfollow any you no longer want to see, and review your ad topics.
- Tap Reset suggested content to finish.
Instagram's help says the reset cannot be undone, does not change who you follow or the ads you see, and does not delete your data.
What happens after the reset
Meta says your recommendations "will start to personalize again over time" based on the content and accounts you interact with. Instagram's help says the same for likes, shares and other interactions. We could not confirm in Instagram's help how long this takes. In our own use, if we went back to watching the same kinds of Reels, the Reels tab started to feel familiar again within days to a couple of weeks.
Meta also says its ranking uses many predictions, some based on behavior, so likes and follows are not the only things that count. We could not confirm in Instagram's help exactly how much simply watching a reel counts. So in the first days after a reset, it is worth tapping Not interested on Reels you don't want instead of just watching them.
If you want fewer Reels at all
A reset changes which Reels you see, not how many. Instagram has no setting for adults that turns Reels off. The Following feed removes suggested posts from your feed, but the Reels tab stays.
