How to get rid of the For you tab on X (iPhone, 2026)
X has no setting that removes the For you tab. What X's help does say is that you can switch between For you and Following, and that X reopens on whichever timeline you had open when you closed it. So if you leave X on Following, that is where you land next time. Muted words keep chosen words and hashtags out of your Home timeline. If you want the For you tab gone, open X in minulo: For you is hidden and Following opens first, for free, and your messages keep working.
Written by Ayumu Kitabayashi, the developer of minulo. Facts about X and iPhone settings come from the sources listed below, checked on 2026-10-24. Menu names can change with app updates.
| Method | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Following (top of Home) | Shows posts only from accounts you follow. X reopens on the timeline you had open last. | For you is still one swipe away. |
| Muted words | Keeps posts with the words, hashtags or @names you choose out of Home and notifications, forever or for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. | One entry at a time. Muted posts still show in search. |
| iPhone Screen Time | Limits or blocks the whole X app. | Messages are blocked too. |
| minulo (free) | Opens X with the For you tab hidden and Following first. Search, Video and Grok can be hidden too. Messages and notifications keep working. | The official X app itself does not change. |
How to switch to Following and stay there
- Open X and go to Home.
- Tap Following at the top, or swipe left from For you.
- Close X while you are still on Following.
X's help says that when you close X on the For you or Following tab, it reopens on whichever timeline you had open last. If you check the For you tab even once and then close the app, you are back on For you next time, so switch back before closing.
Can you delete the For you tab on X?
We could not find a way in X's help as of October 2026. Home always has both tabs. X also says it adds recommended posts, accounts to follow and popular content to your timeline, and sends recommendations by push notification and in the Notifications tab, so you can still run into posts from accounts you don't follow.
Mute the topics that pull you in
If one topic keeps dragging you into For you, mute it. Go to Settings and privacy › Privacy and safety › Mute and block › Muted words (you can also get there from the Notifications tab). Add a word, hashtag or @name, choose Home timeline, Notifications or both, and choose how long: forever, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
X's help notes that muted words still show up in search, and that notifications you turned on for a specific account are not muted.
Hide For you in minulo
minulo opens X's official website inside the app. With Open Following first on, the For you tab is hidden and Home switches to Following. Hide Search and Hide Video and Grok are there too. These are on by default, and you can turn each one off with the gear next to X. Messages, notifications and Following open straight from the minulo home screen.
Hiding is free. If you keep opening the official X app out of habit, minulo can lock it with Screen Time, which is free for up to 2 hours per block. While it is locked, its notifications don't arrive. minulo Pro adds schedules by day and time, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists.
Can I turn off the For you tab on X?
We could not find a setting that removes it in X's help as of October 2026. You can switch to Following, and X reopens on the timeline you had open last when you closed it. To have the For you tab hidden every time, open X in an app that hides it, such as minulo, where this is free.
How do I make X open to Following instead of For you?
Switch to Following at the top of Home and close X while you are still on it. X's help says the app reopens on whichever timeline you had open last. If you look at For you before closing, it will open on For you next time.
Why does X keep going back to For you?
X remembers the tab you were on when you closed the app. If you swiped over to For you, even briefly, that is the tab you get next time. X may also show recommended posts in notifications, which can take you back into recommended content.
Does muting words remove posts from For you?
Muted words apply to your Home timeline and notifications, so posts containing them are kept out of Home. Muted posts still appear in search, and notifications you turned on for a specific account are not muted. You add entries one at a time and can mute them forever or for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.
Can I use X just for DMs?
X has no setting for that. Screen Time blocks the whole app, messages included. In minulo, X opens to Messages with the For you tab hidden, and Search, Video and Grok can be hidden too. Hiding is free.
