How to see only people you follow on Threads, and make Following the default (2026)

Threads has two main feeds. For you mixes posts from people you follow with recommended accounts, and Following shows only posts from profiles you follow. Meta said in 2025 that you can change the order of your feeds and make one your default, so you can put Following first and Threads opens there. For you is still one tap away, and we could not find a setting in Threads' help that removes it. If you want it gone, minulo opens Threads on Following with For you skipped, for free.

Written by Ayumu Kitabayashi, the developer of minulo. Facts about Threads come from Threads' help pages and Meta's announcement listed below, checked on 2026-10-24. The steps for changing your default feed come from Lifehacker, because Threads' help doesn't list them. Menu names can change with app updates.

How to switch to Following on Threads

Threads' help says that switching between For you and Following lets you choose whose posts you see. For you mixes posts from profiles you follow with recommended accounts. Following only shows posts from profiles you follow.

On threads.com, click the feed name at the top of Home to switch. In the app, the feeds sit as names at the top of Home, under the Threads logo, and you tap the one you want.

Make Following the feed Threads opens first

  1. Open Threads and go to Home.
  2. Touch and hold one of the feed names at the top.
  3. Choose Edit Feeds.
  4. Drag Following to the top of the list. The first feed in the list is the one Threads opens on.

Meta announced this in 2025: "You can also now personalize the order of your feeds. For instance, if you'd like to see a custom feed you've created when you first open the app, you can make that your default." The steps above come from Lifehacker's write-up from March 2025. We could not find the button names in Threads' own help, so they may look slightly different in your app.

Build a custom feed instead

If Following is too narrow, Threads lets you build a custom feed from topics and profiles you pick. On threads.com, Threads' help says to click Edit next to Other Feeds in the left menu, then Create new feed, add topics or profiles and name it. From the feed's Options menu you can pin it to Home. A custom feed can also be your default feed. Feeds are private unless you make them public.

Tune For you: Dear algo and Your algo

If you keep For you but want less of something, Threads lets you send a request to the algorithm. A post that includes "Dear algo" is public, and "Your algo" is private. You can have up to 5 active requests of each kind, and they are temporary. In the app, open Menu › Your Algo to see, edit or delete them. Threads' help says these features may not be available in your region.

Open Threads on Following in minulo

minulo is an iPhone app that opens Threads' website inside the app. With Recommendations (opens Following) on, Threads opens on Following instead of For you. Posts in the feed hides the feed entirely, for people who only open Threads to post or check replies. Following, Notifications and Feed open straight from the minulo home screen. You sign in with your Instagram account on Threads' own screen.

Hiding is free. minulo can also lock the official Threads app with Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. While it is locked, its notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. Schedules, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists are in minulo Pro. minulo is not on Android.

Can you turn off For you on Threads?

We could not find a setting that removes the For you feed in Threads' help as of October 2026. You can switch to Following, which shows only posts from profiles you follow, and Meta says you can change the order of your feeds so another feed opens first. For you stays one tap away. To have it hidden every time, open Threads in an app that skips it, such as minulo.

How do I make Threads open to Following?

Change the order of your feeds and put Following first. Meta announced in 2025 that you can personalize the order of your feeds and make one your default. Lifehacker described the steps as: on Home, touch and hold a feed name at the top, choose Edit Feeds and drag Following to the top of the list. We could not find these button names in Threads' own help, and Meta said the feature was rolling out gradually.

Does the Following feed show only people I follow?

Yes. Threads' help says the Following feed only shows posts from profiles you are following, while For you mixes posts from profiles you follow with recommended accounts.

Why does Threads keep opening on For you?

For you is the first feed unless you change the order of your feeds. If you don't see a way to edit your feeds, update the app; Meta rolled the default-feed option out over time. In minulo, Threads always opens on Following with For you skipped.

Can I also stop Threads posts showing up on Instagram?

We could not find one setting for that in Instagram's help. You can hide Threads posts on Instagram one at a time, or switch Instagram to its Following feed. The Threads setting Suggesting posts on other apps is about your own posts, not what you see.
