How to stop seeing Threads posts on Instagram (iPhone, 2026)

We could not find a setting in Instagram's help that turns off Threads posts in your Instagram feed. Meta started showing Threads posts directly on Instagram and Facebook in late 2023. What works today: hide each Threads post from its menu, or switch to the Following feed, where only accounts you follow appear. The Threads setting Suggesting posts on other apps is about your own posts, not what you see. If you only open Instagram for DMs, minulo can open it with the whole feed hidden, for free.

Why Threads posts show up on Instagram

In November 2023, Instagram head Adam Mosseri wrote that Meta had introduced a feature that shows Threads posts directly on Facebook and Instagram, to help people grow their reach on Threads. So the posts you see are Threads posts that Meta chose to put in your Instagram feed, often from accounts you don't follow.

Hide Threads posts one at a time

  1. Find a Threads post in your Instagram feed.
  2. Tap the three dots next to it.
  3. Tap Hide.

Guiding Tech describes these steps and says you may need to repeat them a few times. Instagram's help doesn't describe this for Threads posts specifically, and we could not confirm that hiding a few stops them for good.

For Threads notifications inside Instagram, Guiding Tech says you can swipe left on one in the Notifications tab, tap the three dots and choose Turn off notifications like this.

Switch to the Following feed

Tap Instagram at the top left of your feed and choose Following. Instagram's help says this shows posts from people you follow, newest first, and Meta says there are no suggested posts in this view. When you reopen Instagram you are back on the regular feed, so you choose Following again. See how to see only people you follow.

What the Threads setting actually does

On Threads, go to Settings › Privacy › Suggesting posts on other apps. The official Threads account says this lets you turn off suggestions of your posts on Instagram, Facebook or both. It decides whether your Threads posts can appear in other people's Instagram feeds. It doesn't stop other people's Threads posts from appearing in yours.

Use Instagram without the feed in minulo

minulo opens Instagram's official website inside the app. With the gear next to Instagram you can turn on Suggested posts, Hide the whole feed or Every tab but DMs. With the whole feed hidden, nothing appears there at all, Threads posts included, while DMs and your own posts keep working. You can also add Threads in minulo and open it to Following instead of recommendations.

Hiding is free. Blocking the official Instagram app with Screen Time is free for up to 2 hours per block; while it is blocked, its notifications don't arrive. minulo Pro adds schedules by day and time, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists.

Why are Threads posts showing up in my Instagram feed?

Meta shows Threads posts directly on Instagram and Facebook. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the feature in November 2023 as a way to help Threads posts reach more people. They can come from accounts you don't follow.

Can I turn off Threads posts on Instagram completely?

We could not find a setting for this in Instagram's help as of October 2026. You can hide Threads posts one at a time from their menu, or switch to the Following feed, which shows only accounts you follow. If you mainly use Instagram for DMs, minulo can open it with the whole feed hidden, for free.

Does "Suggesting posts on other apps" stop Threads on Instagram?

Not for what you see. That Threads setting controls whether your own Threads posts are suggested on Instagram and Facebook. Other people's Threads posts can still appear in your Instagram feed.

Does the Following feed remove Threads posts?

Following shows posts only from accounts you follow, with no suggested posts, so Threads posts that Instagram suggests from other accounts are not shown there. Instagram goes back to the regular feed when you reopen it, so you choose Following each time.

How do I stop Threads notifications on Instagram?

Guiding Tech says you can swipe left on a Threads notification in Instagram's Notifications tab, tap the three dots and choose Turn off notifications like this. We could not find this step in Instagram's help.
