TikTok's daily screen time limit: how to set it, turn it off, and make it actually stop you (2026)

TikTok's daily screen time is under Profile › Menu › Settings and privacy › Time and well-being › Screen time. When you reach the limit, TikTok notifies you and you can close the app or type the passcode shown on the screen to keep watching, so it is a reminder, not a lock. For users aged 13 to 17 it is on by default at 1 hour. To be blocked at the limit, use iPhone Screen Time with a passcode someone else sets. If the For You feed is the problem, minulo hides it and keeps your messages, for free.

  4. Tap Screen time and turn on Daily screen time.

What happens when you reach the limit

TikTok's help puts it this way: TikTok notifies you, and "you can choose to close TikTok or enter the on-screen passcode to return to it." The code you need is printed on the same screen, so getting past it takes a few seconds.

That is why so many people search for "TikTok screen time limit not working". Nothing is broken. The limit is there to make you notice the time, and you still decide whether to keep watching.

Other screen time settings in TikTok

Sleep hours (same Screen time page): after your sleep time starts, TikTok mutes push notifications and shows a reminder in the app to consider taking a break. TikTok works out the end time from your age, for example at least 7 hours of sleep for people 18 and over.

Weekly screen time updates sends you a weekly summary of your time and how it compares with the week before. The screen time dashboard (Menu ☰ › Activity center) shows your time on TikTok for each day of the current week, and you can look back up to 3 weeks.

How to make the limit actually stop you (iPhone Screen Time)

If you want TikTok to close for real at the limit, the block has to come from the iPhone, not from TikTok.

  1. Open Settings and tap Screen Time, then App Limits and Add Limit (iOS 26).
  2. Select TikTok, tap Next and set the time.
  3. Set a Screen Time passcode with Lock Screen Time Settings.
  4. Open the TikTok limit again and turn on Block at End of Limit.

On iOS 27, Apple replaces App Limits with Time Allowances, which set time for a category such as Social Media and also cover websites the app declares as associated. On iOS 26, tiktok.com in Safari needs its own entry under Never Allow in Content & Privacy Restrictions. If you chose the passcode yourself, you can still type it and lift the limit, so ask someone else to set it. All of this blocks TikTok messages too. Step-by-step: how to block TikTok on iPhone.

Hide the For You feed instead of timing it (minulo)

A time limit counts every minute in TikTok, including the minutes you spend replying to friends. If the For You feed is what eats the time, you can remove it instead. minulo is an iPhone app that opens TikTok's website inside the app. You can hide Recommendations, or Every tab but DMs. Messages and Following open straight from the minulo home screen.

Hiding is free and stays on until you turn it off. minulo can also lock the official TikTok app with Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. While it is locked, TikTok's notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. Schedules by day and time, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists are in minulo Pro. minulo is not on Android.
