YouTube's Shorts feed limit explained: where it is, how to set it to 0, and why you can tap past it

YouTube's Shorts feed limit is in the YouTube app under You → Settings → Time management → Shorts feed limit. You pick a time from a list, and 0 is one of the options. When you reach the limit, a reminder appears, and YouTube's help says you can then dismiss or ignore the limit. In other words, you can keep watching. If you want Shorts gone with no button to tap past, you can watch YouTube in minulo with Shorts hidden, for free.

  3. Tap Time management.
  4. Tap Shorts feed limit. A list of time limits appears, including the option to set it to zero.
  5. Select your time limit.

When you reach the limit in the Shorts feed, YouTube shows a reminder message. In the words of YouTube's help, you are then "prompted with an option to dismiss or ignore your set limit."

What YouTube's help page doesn't say

The help page only talks about the Shorts feed. It doesn't say whether the limit also applies to Shorts on Home, in search results or on channel pages, and it doesn't list the time options beyond saying that zero is one of them.

Hide Shorts completely by watching YouTube in minulo

minulo is an iPhone app that opens YouTube inside the app. You choose what to hide, one item at a time: Shorts, Home recommendations, everything on Home except search, or comments. There is no reminder to tap past.

  1. Install minulo from the App Store.
  2. On the home screen, tap "Add a service" and choose YouTube.
  3. Tap the gear next to YouTube and turn on Shorts.
  4. To stop the official app too, open the "Block" tab, allow Screen Time, and choose YouTube in "Apps to block". When you try to open YouTube, a "Blocked" screen appears, and "Open in minulo" takes you to minulo.

Hiding Shorts and blocking the official app are free. Schedules that switch by day and time and Hard Mode are part of minulo Pro.

How do I set a time limit on YouTube Shorts?

In the YouTube app, tap the You tab, then Settings, then Time management, then Shorts feed limit, and pick a time from the list. YouTube's help page gives these steps for the YouTube app.

Can you set the YouTube Shorts limit to 0?

Yes. YouTube's help says the list of time limits includes the option to set your Shorts feed limit to zero.

Why is my YouTube Shorts limit not working?

Reaching the limit doesn't stop you from watching. YouTube shows a reminder and, according to its help page, gives you an option to dismiss or ignore your set limit. If you ignore it, the Shorts feed keeps going. To hide Shorts with no button to tap past, you can watch YouTube in minulo with Shorts turned off and block the official app with Screen Time. Both are free.

Does the Shorts feed limit work on youtube.com or on a computer?

YouTube's help page only gives steps for the YouTube app and doesn't describe the setting for youtube.com in a browser. On iPhone, minulo opens YouTube's website in its own view with Shorts hidden.

Can parents set a YouTube Shorts limit for their teen?

Yes, on a supervised teen account. In January 2026 YouTube said parents can set how much time a teen spends scrolling Shorts, and that an option to set the timer to zero was coming soon. YouTube's example was zero during homework and 60 minutes on a long car trip.
