YouTube Shorts feed limit on teen, kid and adult accounts: what YouTube's help says (2026)
On your own account, the Shorts feed limit is a reminder. You set it in the YouTube app under You › Settings › Time management › Shorts feed limit, and when time is up, YouTube's help says you can dismiss or ignore the limit. On a supervised teen account, a parent sets the Shorts limit from Family Center, along with take a break and bedtime reminders and the content setting. YouTube's help also lists a Shorts feed limit among the screen time limits parents manage in Family Center for supervised kid accounts. YouTube Kids is a separate app with its own timer that locks the app when time is up. YouTube's help doesn't say whether a teen can tap past a limit a parent set. If you want Shorts gone on your own iPhone, minulo hides them for free.

| Account | Who sets the Shorts limit | What YouTube's help says |
|---|---|---|
| Your own account | You, in the YouTube app: You › Settings › Time management › Shorts feed limit. | 0 is one of the options. When the limit is reached, a reminder appears and you can dismiss or ignore it. |
| Supervised teen account (13 to 17 in most countries) | A linked parent, in Family Center. | Parents can set limits on the Shorts feed, take a break and bedtime reminders, and the content setting. Supervision is voluntary, and a parent or the teen can turn it off at any time. |
| Supervised kid account (under 13) | A parent, in Family Center. | Family Center manages screen time limits, including a Shorts feed limit. Making Shorts is among the features turned off. |
| YouTube Kids (separate app) | A parent, with the app's timer. | When the timer ends, kids see a "Time's up!" notification and the app locks. |
On your own account, the limit can be ignored
- Sign in to the YouTube app.
- Tap the You tab, then Settings.
- Tap Time management, then Shorts feed limit.
- Pick a time from the list. Zero is one of the choices.
YouTube's help says that when you reach the limit in the Shorts feed, a message reminds you, and you are offered the option to dismiss or ignore your set limit. So on an adult account, the limit is a nudge you can tap past.
On a supervised teen account, the parent sets it
A supervised teen account is a teen's own Google Account linked to a parent's account. YouTube describes it as voluntary: either the parent or the teen can start setup, both have to agree to link, and either one can turn supervision off at any time. YouTube says teens can also use Family Center to see their linked parent and turn supervision on or off.
Once linked, a parent can set limits on the Shorts feed, set take a break and bedtime reminders, and change the teen's content setting. To get there, YouTube's help says to sign in on a computer, click your profile picture, then Settings, scroll to Family Center and click Manage kids profiles and features for teens, then select your teen. The help pages we read don't list the time choices for teens.
When YouTube announced this on January 14, 2026, it said parents could set how much time a teen spends scrolling Shorts and that an option to set the timer to zero was coming soon. Its example was zero during homework and 60 minutes on a long car trip.
What YouTube's help doesn't say
The adult help page says you can dismiss or ignore the limit. The teen pages say a parent can set the limit, but none of the pages we read say whether the teen sees the same dismiss option or not. We couldn't confirm either way, so don't count on a parent-set limit being impossible to skip. Also, because a teen can turn supervision off, the limit holds only as long as both keep the accounts linked.
Kid accounts and YouTube Kids are different things
A supervised kid account is a parent-managed version of regular YouTube for children under 13. YouTube's comparison page says parents can use Family Center to manage screen time limits for it, including a Shorts feed limit. Some features are turned off for these accounts, and making Shorts is one of them.
YouTube Kids is a separate app. YouTube says screen time there is set with a built-in timer: a parent opens Settings, solves a multiplication problem or enters a passcode, taps Set Timer and starts it. When time is up, the app locks until a parent unlocks it. That timer covers the whole app, not just short videos.
What minulo does and doesn't do
minulo is for your own iPhone. It opens YouTube's official website inside the app with Hide the Shorts tab, Hide the Shorts shelf and Send Shorts links to the normal player, so Shorts don't show up and there is no limit screen to tap past. Subscriptions and search keep working. Hiding is free.
We haven't tested minulo with supervised teen or kid accounts, and it doesn't change YouTube Kids or the official YouTube app. minulo can lock the official app with iPhone Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. While it is locked, its notifications don't arrive, and minulo doesn't send any. minulo Pro adds schedules by day and time, blocks over 2 hours, multiple block lists and Hard Mode. minulo is iPhone only and is made by the person who wrote this page.
