Browser extensions that hide YouTube Shorts on a computer (2026)

In Chrome, Firefox or Edge on a computer, the Unhook extension has a switch that hides Shorts. In Safari or Chrome on a Mac, you can use minulo's Mac app: install the Mac app first, then add the Chrome extension from inside it if you use Chrome.

YouTube itself has no setting that removes Shorts from Home on youtube.com. Not interested on the Shorts shelf is feedback for your recommendations, and the shelf can come back, so if you want Shorts hidden as a setting, you need an extension. Unhook's website has install buttons for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, and none for Safari.

Hide Shorts with Unhook (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)

Unhook's website describes it as a way to watch YouTube without distractions, blocking suggestion feeds, comments and more, and has install buttons for Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Its Chrome Web Store listing has about 30 switches, including Hide YouTube Shorts, the Home feed, the recommended sidebar, end screen suggestions, comments, and Explore and Trending. When we looked on 2026-11-02, the listing showed 1,000,000 users, a 4.9 rating from 4.6K ratings, an update on March 22, 2026 (version 1.6.9), no price, and a request for donations.

Neither the website nor the listing mentions Safari. The only phone use described is mobile YouTube (m.youtube.com) through Firefox on Android. Other extensions on the Chrome Web Store also say they hide Shorts, but this page lists only Unhook, whose website and listing we checked. We haven't tested Unhook.

Safari and Chrome on a Mac: minulo's Mac app

minulo has a Mac version that works in Safari and Chrome. The Mac app comes first: install it from the minulo.app home page, and to use Chrome, add the Chrome extension from inside the Mac app. The Mac app is in Japanese for now.

minulo's privacy policy (in Japanese) says the Mac app reads only the address of the page open in your browser and, when that page is a way into a feed or short videos, sends you to a place you choose. The Mac app and the Chrome and Safari extensions contain no analytics, and the extensions have no code that talks to outside servers. This page doesn't cover which parts of YouTube the Mac app hides. minulo is for iPhone and Mac, with no Windows or Android version.

What YouTube's own settings can do on a computer

On youtube.com, you can click More next to the title of a section on Home, including the Shorts shelf, and choose Not interested. YouTube Help describes this as feedback that tunes your recommendations and doesn't say how long a section stays away. The other lever is watch history: YouTube says that if you turn it off and have no recent history, recommendations on the homepage are removed. More in How to remove the Shorts shelf on YouTube (website).

On iPhone

minulo opens YouTube's own website inside the app and hides what you turn on, such as Shorts and Home recommendations. Subscriptions, Watch later and search keep working, and hiding is free with no time limit. The official YouTube app doesn't change, but you can lock it in the Block tab (free for up to 2 hours per block), and the block screen has an Open in minulo button.

While minulo locks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive, and minulo doesn't send them instead. minulo is new and has few ratings. See What minulo can't do.
