Why YouTube Shorts still show in Subscriptions and search, and what you can do (iPhone, 2026)
minulo hides the Shorts shelf and Shorts tab for free and sends Shorts links to the normal player, so a Short you tap in Subscriptions or search doesn't pull you into the swipe feed. YouTube's own help lists where viewers find Shorts: the Shorts tab, search results, the homepage, channel pages, Subscriptions and notifications. The Shorts feed limit is about the Shorts feed: YouTube's help says a reminder appears when the limit is reached there, and that you can dismiss it. For search, YouTube's help lists a Type filter. We couldn't find a setting in YouTube's help that removes Shorts from Subscriptions.
Written by Ayumu Kitabayashi, the developer of minulo. The YouTube steps come from YouTube Help, checked on 2026-10-27. YouTube changes its app often, so menu names may differ.

Where YouTube says Shorts appear
In its help for creators, YouTube explains how viewers find Shorts. Besides the Shorts button at the bottom of the app, which opens a never-ending stream in the Shorts feed, YouTube lists: search results across YouTube, including on most smart TVs, game consoles and other streaming devices; the YouTube homepage; the creator's channel homepage; Subscriptions; and notifications.
So hiding the Shorts shelf on Home or limiting the Shorts feed covers only part of that list. See hiding the Shorts shelf for the X on Home.
What the Shorts feed limit covers
- In the YouTube app, tap the You tab, then Settings.
- Tap Time management, then Shorts feed limit.
- Pick a limit. YouTube says the list includes the option to set it to zero.
YouTube's help says that when the limit is reached in the Shorts feed, a message reminds you, with an option to dismiss or ignore it. It doesn't say the limit removes Shorts from search, Subscriptions or channel pages. More in the Shorts feed limit explained.
Leave Shorts out of search with the Type filter
- Open the YouTube app and tap Search.
- Enter a search term.
- When the results show, tap Filter.
- Choose a Type, then tap Back.
YouTube's help names Type as a filter but doesn't list its choices, so check whether your app offers a Videos option. The help describes the filter for each search, and we couldn't confirm that it stays on for the next one.
Subscriptions and channel pages
YouTube's help describes the Subscriptions feed as the newest content from the channels you subscribe to, and lists Subscriptions among the places viewers find Shorts. We couldn't find a setting in YouTube's help that hides Shorts there or on channel pages.
If Shorts reach you through alerts, you can change notifications for each channel. See YouTube notifications only from subscriptions.
In minulo: no Shorts shelf or tab, and Shorts open in the normal player
- Install minulo, tap Add a service on the home screen and choose YouTube.
- Tap the gear next to YouTube and turn on Hide the Shorts shelf, Hide the Shorts tab and Send Shorts links to the normal player. This is free.
- Subscriptions, Watch later and search open straight from the minulo home screen.
- Optional: in the Block tab, lock the official YouTube app with Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. Its Open in minulo button takes you to YouTube without Shorts.
To be clear about what this does: these settings hide the Shorts shelf and the Shorts tab, and open Shorts links in the normal player. They don't promise to remove every single Short from Subscriptions or search results. When you tap one there, it plays like a normal video instead of starting the swipe feed. Hiding is a setting, so it stays until you change it, and there is no reminder to dismiss.
Limits, so you can decide honestly: Reels and Shorts are hidden only inside minulo, and the official apps don't change. While minulo blocks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. Posting Stories, voice messages and calls aren't available. minulo runs on iPhone and Mac (plus Chrome and Safari extensions), not Android, and it is new, with few ratings. See what minulo can't do.
Why do Shorts still show in Subscriptions after I set the Shorts limit to 0?
minulo hides the Shorts shelf and tab for free and opens Shorts links in the normal player, but YouTube's own limit is about the Shorts feed. YouTube's help says viewers also find Shorts in Subscriptions, search, channel pages and notifications.
How do I remove Shorts from YouTube search results?
After searching, tap Filter and choose a Type. YouTube's help lists the Type filter but not its choices, and we couldn't confirm that it stays on for the next search.
Can I hide Shorts in the YouTube Subscriptions feed?
We couldn't find a setting in YouTube's help that hides Shorts in Subscriptions. In minulo, a Short you tap there opens in the normal player instead of the swipe feed.
Does the Shorts feed limit stop Shorts I open from search?
YouTube's help only says a reminder appears when the limit is reached in the Shorts feed, with an option to dismiss it. It doesn't say what happens to Shorts opened from search.
Does minulo remove every Short from Subscriptions and search?
No, we don't promise that. It hides the Shorts shelf and Shorts tab and opens Shorts links in the normal player, only inside minulo. The official YouTube app doesn't change.
Do these settings work in the official YouTube app?
The Shorts feed limit and the search filter are in the YouTube app. minulo's settings work only when you open YouTube inside minulo.
