Can you set a time limit on Snapchat Spotlight? (Family Center and Screen Time, 2026)

No. We could not find a time limit for Spotlight in Snapchat's help as of October 2026, for yourself or for a teen. Family Center lets a parent see a teen's Time Spent: a daily average for the last seven days, grouped into Messaging, Camera, Spotlight & Stories, and Map. It shows the time but does not cap it. iPhone Screen Time can limit the whole Snapchat app, which stops chats too. To keep chats and drop Spotlight, open Snapchat in an app that hides it, such as minulo, where hiding Spotlight is free.

Written by Ayumu Kitabayashi, the developer of minulo. Facts about Snapchat come from Snapchat Support, and facts about Screen Time from the Apple iPhone User Guide (iOS 27), checked on 2026-10-25. Menu names can change with app and iOS updates.

Is there a Spotlight time limit in Snapchat?

We could not find one. Snapchat's help lists what Family Center can do: see who a teen chatted with recently, see their friends, limit sensitive content, stop My AI from replying, request their location, set Place Alerts and see key privacy settings. A time limit is not on that list, and we found no Spotlight timer in Snapchat's settings help either.

See a teen's Spotlight time in Family Center

  1. On the Camera screen, tap your Bitmoji or Story icon at the top to open My Account.
  2. Scroll to Family Center under My Friends and tap it. (You can also type "family" in search, or go to Settings › App & Privacy › Family Center.)
  3. Open your teen's Time Spent.

Snapchat says Time Spent shows a daily average for the last seven days plus a bar for each day; tap a day to see its total. Time is grouped into Messaging, Camera, Spotlight & Stories, and Map, so Spotlight is not shown on its own. The data can take a few hours to appear and follows the device's time zone.

Family Center works only between a parent or caregiver aged 18 or over and a teen aged 13 to 17, the teen has to accept the invitation, and Snapchat says it is still rolling out by country.

Limit Snapchat with iPhone Screen Time

Screen Time sees Snapchat as one app. On iOS 27, go to Settings › Screen Time › Time Allowances and set time for a category such as Social Media. On iOS 26, use App Limits. Either way the limit covers chats, the camera and Stories as well as Spotlight.

Snapchat also says Spotlight can be watched on the web. Apple says a Time Allowance applies to a website the app declares as its own; we have not checked whether Snapchat declares its website, so test it before relying on it.

What minulo does and doesn't do

minulo opens Snapchat's website inside the app. In its Snapchat settings you can hide Spotlight and Discover, and Chat opens straight from the minulo home screen. Hiding is free. It doesn't limit Spotlight time; it takes Spotlight out of the screen. The official Snapchat app itself does not change.

If you keep opening the official Snapchat app out of habit, minulo can lock it with Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. While it is locked, its notifications don't arrive and minulo sends none of its own, so lock it only when you can miss them. minulo Pro adds schedules by day and time, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists. minulo is for iPhone; there is no Android version.

Can you set a time limit on Snapchat Spotlight?

Not as far as Snapchat's help shows in October 2026. There is no Spotlight timer for yourself, and Family Center shows a teen's time without capping it. iPhone Screen Time can limit the whole Snapchat app, chats included.

Can parents see how much time a teen spends on Spotlight?

Partly. Family Center's Time Spent groups time into Messaging, Camera, Spotlight & Stories, and Map, with a daily average for the last seven days. Spotlight is counted together with Stories.

Can Family Center block Spotlight?

No. Hide Sensitive Content in Family Center limits sensitive or suggestive content in places like Stories and Spotlight, but Spotlight stays in the app.

Can Screen Time limit only Spotlight?

No. Screen Time limits the Snapchat app as a whole, so chats stop at the limit too. To keep chats without Spotlight, open Snapchat in an app that hides it, such as minulo.

Who can use Snapchat Family Center?

Snapchat says parents and caregivers must be 18 or older and teens 13 to 17. The teen has to accept an invitation, and Family Center may not be available in every country yet.
