Is there Unhook for iPhone? Hiding YouTube recommendations, Shorts and comments (2026)
minulo does on iPhone what many people use Unhook for on a computer: it opens YouTube with Shorts, Home recommendations and comments hidden, and hiding is free.
Unhook itself is a browser extension. Its website offers it for Chrome, Firefox and Edge, and its Chrome Web Store listing doesn't mention Safari or iPhone. The App Store does have an iPhone app named "Unhook:" from Be Timeful Inc that says it blocks the YouTube feed, but the extension's website doesn't link to it, so we can't tell whether the two are related, and we haven't tested it.
- Install minulo, tap Add a service and choose YouTube.
- Tap the gear next to YouTube and turn on Shorts, Home recommendations and Comments. Everything on home but search leaves only the search box on Home.
- Open videos from Subscriptions, Watch later or search.
- In the Block tab, choose the official YouTube app. Blocking is free for up to 2 hours per block.

What Unhook is and where it works
Unhook's website describes it as a way to watch YouTube free of distractions, blocking suggestion feeds, comments and more, with install buttons for Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Its Chrome Web Store listing names the parts it can hide, among them the Home feed, the recommended sidebar, Shorts, end screen suggestions, comments, live chat, and Explore and Trending. The only phone use the listing describes is mobile YouTube (m.youtube.com) through Firefox on Android. Safari and iPhone aren't mentioned.
Searching the App Store for Unhook brings up an iPhone app called "Unhook:" from Be Timeful Inc, whose description says it blocks the YouTube feed. The extension's website doesn't point to any iPhone app, so we can't confirm both come from the same developer. We haven't tried it, so read its App Store page before you install it.
Hide YouTube recommendations, Shorts and comments with minulo
minulo opens YouTube's own website inside the app and hides the items you turn on: Shorts, Home recommendations, Everything on home but search and Comments. Subscriptions, Watch later and search keep working, and you can change what is hidden at any time. Hiding is free with no time limit.
minulo has fewer switches than Unhook. There is no separate switch for the sidebar or the end screen, so if you rely on those in Unhook, you won't find an exact match. What minulo adds is the iPhone side: it can lock the official YouTube app with Screen Time, and the block screen has an Open in minulo button.
What YouTube's own settings can do
We couldn't find a switch in YouTube Help that turns Shorts off. In the YouTube app you can set the Shorts feed limit to 0, but when you reach it, YouTube shows a reminder that you can close or ignore. Google's help also says that if you don't want video recommendations on Home, you can delete and turn off your watch history. To stop the next video from starting, tap your profile picture, then Settings, then turn off Autoplay.
On a computer
If Unhook already works for you in Chrome or Firefox on a computer, keep it there. minulo also has a Mac app that works in Safari and Chrome. To use it in Chrome, install the Mac app first, then add the Chrome extension from inside the Mac app. The Mac app is in Japanese for now, and this page doesn't cover which YouTube parts it hides.
Limits, so you can decide honestly: hidden parts are hidden only inside minulo, and the official apps don't change. While minulo blocks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. Posting Stories, voice messages and calls aren't available. minulo is for iPhone, with a Mac version that works in Safari and Chrome, and there is no Android version yet. It is new, with few ratings.
