How to remove the Shorts shelf from YouTube Home on the website (2026)

youtube.com has no setting that removes Shorts from your Home page, as far as YouTube's help shows in October 2026. On a computer, you can click More next to the title of a section on Home, including the Shorts shelf, and choose Not interested. YouTube's help describes this as feedback that tunes your recommendations, not as a switch, and it doesn't say how long a section stays away. That is why the shelf can come back. YouTube lists the homepage as one of the places viewers find Shorts. The other lever is watch history: if you turn it off and have no recent history, YouTube says recommendations on the homepage are removed.

MethodWhat YouTube's help saysLimits
Not interested on the Shorts shelf (More next to the section title)Tells YouTube you are not interested in that section. Used to tune recommendations. No duration is given. The shelf can show up again. YouTube notes some of these features need you to be signed in.
Don't recommend channel (More next to a Short)Stops recommendations from that channel. One channel at a time.
Turn off watch history (My Activity › Controls)With no relevant recent history, homepage recommendations are removed.Your history stops being saved. The help doesn't say Shorts go away everywhere.
Show fewer ShortsDescribed for the YouTube app (tap More on a Shorts grid). The help gives app steps, not website steps.

Mark the Shorts shelf as Not interested

  1. Sign in on youtube.com and go to Home.
  2. Scroll to the Shorts shelf.
  3. Click More (the three dots) next to the section title.
  4. Click Not interested.

YouTube's help gives these steps for a video, playlist, post or section on Home. For a channel whose Shorts keep showing up, click More next to one of its Shorts and select Don't recommend channel.

To undo either kind of feedback, go to My Activity, choose Other Google activity, and delete YouTube 'Not interested' feedback. That clears all of it at once.

Why the Shorts shelf comes back

YouTube's help calls Not interested feedback that "may be used to tune your recommendations". It doesn't promise the section stays hidden, and we could not find a stated time limit. Separately, YouTube's Shorts help lists the YouTube homepage as one of the places viewers find Shorts, along with search, Subscriptions and notifications. So the shelf is part of Home by design, and a click on Not interested lowers it rather than deleting it.

The feedback is stored in your Google Account, so these also bring the shelf back: clearing your Not interested feedback in My Activity, signing out, or using a different Google account.

Turn off watch history

  1. Go to My Activity (myactivity.google.com) and sign in.
  2. Click the Controls tab in the left sidebar.
  3. Select Turn off.

If you watch signed out, go to YouTube, select History, then Pause watch history.

YouTube says that if you have no relevant or significant recent watch history and have chosen not to get recommendations based on it, features like recommendations on the YouTube homepage are removed. You may also need to clear past history for that to apply. The trade-off is that YouTube stops saving what you watch, and the help doesn't say that Shorts disappear from search or channel pages.

What about Show fewer Shorts?

YouTube's help describes Show fewer Shorts for the YouTube app: on Home, scroll to a grid of Shorts, tap More at the top of the grid and tap Show fewer Shorts. It doesn't give steps for the website. On youtube.com, use Not interested on the shelf instead. For iPad and Mac, see YouTube without Shorts on iPad and Mac.

What minulo does and doesn't do

minulo is an iPhone app. It opens YouTube's official website inside the app, and you choose what to hide with the gear next to YouTube: Hide the Shorts shelf, Hide the Shorts tab, Send Shorts links to the normal player and Home recommendations (subscriptions stay). Unlike Not interested, this is a setting: it stays as you left it, and you can change it at any time. Hiding is free. The official YouTube app itself does not change.

minulo can lock the official YouTube app with Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. While it is locked its notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. minulo Pro adds schedules by day and time, longer blocks, Hard Mode and multiple block lists. Our limitations page lists Mac, Chrome and Safari among the places minulo runs; this page does not cover those versions. There is no Android version.

Can I permanently remove Shorts from YouTube Home on a computer?

Not with a YouTube setting, as far as YouTube's help shows in October 2026. You can click More next to the Shorts shelf and choose Not interested, but YouTube treats that as feedback and the shelf can come back. Turning off watch history removes homepage recommendations when you have no recent history.

Why does the Shorts shelf come back after I click Not interested?

YouTube's help says Not interested feedback may be used to tune recommendations. It doesn't say the section is hidden for good or for how long. YouTube also lists the homepage as one of the places Shorts appear.

How do I undo Not interested on YouTube?

Go to My Activity, choose Other Google activity, and delete YouTube 'Not interested' feedback. This clears all your Not interested and Don't recommend channel feedback at once.

Does Show fewer Shorts work on youtube.com?

YouTube's help gives Show fewer Shorts steps for the YouTube app only, from the More button on a Shorts grid on Home. On the website, the help describes Not interested on a section of Home.

Does turning off watch history remove Shorts?

YouTube says that with no relevant recent history and history turned off, recommendations on the homepage are removed. The help doesn't say that Shorts disappear from search results or channel pages.
