How to watch a Reel a friend sent without getting pulled into Reels (iPhone, 2026)
minulo stops a Reel a friend sends you in DMs before the Reels feed starts, and hiding Reels in minulo is free. In the Instagram app, a Reel you open from a chat plays in the Reels viewer, and the feed carries on from there with one swipe. Instagram has no setting that hides the Reels tab for adult accounts. To see what friends send without the endless feed, open Instagram in minulo: when you open a Reel or Short sent in a DM, it pauses before the vertical video feed starts, and Open for 5 min lets you watch for five minutes. After that, blocking turns back on by itself.

Why a sent Reel is where it starts
Plenty of people don't open Reels on purpose. A friend sends one in a chat, you open it to reply, and the next one is already playing. Blocking Instagram doesn't help here, because the chat is the part you want to keep. What helps is a gap between the video you were sent and the feed after it.
Set it up in minulo
- Install minulo and open Instagram inside it. Sign in on Instagram's own page; minulo does not see your password.
- Tap the gear next to Instagram and turn on Reels and Explore tabs. This switch hides both together.
- When a friend sends a Reel, open it from the chat as usual. minulo stops before the endless feed. Tap Open for 5 min if you want to watch.
- Optional: lock the official Instagram app with Screen Time so tapping its icon brings you to minulo instead. Locking is free for up to 2 hours per block.
If you only want messages, turn on Every tab but DMs, which leaves only DMs and the notifications tab. Hiding Reels, Explore and suggested posts is free.
Limits, so you can decide honestly: minulo can't change the official apps, so Reels and Shorts are hidden only inside minulo. While minulo blocks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own. Can I watch Reels friends send me without the Reels tab?

How do I stop Instagram from playing the next Reel?
The Instagram app doesn't let adult accounts hide the Reels tab, and a Reel opened from a chat continues into the feed. Opening Instagram in minulo puts a stop before that feed. SocialLite says you can watch the one video but can't scroll to the next.
What happens after the 5 minutes?
Blocking turns back on automatically, so the Reels feed is out of reach again until you choose Open for 5 min another time.

Yes. minulo pauses both Reels and Shorts that were sent to you in a DM before the vertical video feed begins.
Do I have to give up group chats?
No. DMs and group chats keep working in minulo. If you block the official app, its notifications don't arrive while it is blocked.
