minulo vs #blockit (BlockIt): hiding Reels and Shorts in Safari or in an app (2026)
#blockit and minulo solve the same problem in different places. #blockit works inside Safari, where you stay logged in as usual, and it has been around since 2020 with 169 US ratings. minulo is a separate app that shows 10 networks, including TikTok, with Reels and Shorts hidden. Pick #blockit if you browse social sites in Safari and want fine switches per site. Pick minulo if you want TikTok or Snapchat covered, want to lock the official apps, or don't want a subscription for hiding.
#blockit (often written BlockIt), listed on the App Store as “#blockit: Block Shorts & Reels” and made by Jordi Kitto, is a Safari content blocker. It removes Shorts, Reels and endless feeds from six websites in Safari and leaves search, messages and notifications in place. Its listing says it has no account, no built-in browser and sends nothing to a server. A different app called “BlockIt - Pushups Screen Time”, which unlocks apps after exercise, is not the one compared here.
This page is written by the developer of minulo, so keep that in mind. #blockit facts come from its US App Store page (version 4.12.1, updated 2026-10-29), including its description and in-app purchase list, checked 2026-11-04. Features and prices can change.

Pick #blockit if
- you already use Instagram, YouTube or Reddit in Safari and want to keep it that way;
- you want very fine switches, such as YouTube comments and end screens or Facebook Marketplace;
- you want one low-cost subscription that also covers your iPad and Mac;
- you prefer an app with a long track record (since 2020) and more ratings behind it.
Pick minulo if
- you need TikTok, Threads, Pinterest or Snapchat without the feed;
- you want hiding to be free, with no subscription;
- you want the official apps locked with Screen Time so you open them in minulo instead;
- you want a free setting that shows only DMs on Instagram or TikTok.
minulo shows each network's website rather than the official app, so screens look a little different from the app. While minulo locks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive. minulo is new and has few ratings so far.
Is minulo a good #blockit alternative?
It depends on where you use social media. #blockit only works in Safari, so it suits people who already open Instagram, YouTube or Reddit there. minulo is its own app, covers 10 networks including TikTok, Threads and Snapchat, can lock the official apps with Screen Time, and hiding is free. #blockit has finer per-site switches and a longer track record.
Is #blockit free?
It is a free download with a 7-day free trial. After that it is a subscription: the US App Store lists Monthly at $0.99, Yearly at $3.99 and Yearly + Family Sharing at $7.99 (checked 2026-11-04). In minulo, hiding Reels, Shorts and suggested posts is free, and Pro is $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year.
Does #blockit block Reels in the Instagram app?
No. Its listing says it uses Apple's Safari content blocker technology and can only remove parts of websites you browse in the Safari app (checked 2026-11-04). minulo doesn't change the official Instagram app either, but it can lock it with Screen Time and open Instagram inside minulo with Reels hidden.
