minulo vs SocialFocus: hide Reels and Shorts in Safari or in an app (2026)

Both apps hide Reels and Shorts without blocking the whole network, but they work in different places. Pick SocialFocus if you use social media in Safari and want fine control over each site, including Gmail: it is a $4.99 Safari extension. Pick minulo if you want one app for 10 networks, including TikTok, Threads and Snapchat, with Reels, Shorts and suggested posts hidden, DMs working, and hiding free.

SocialFocus, listed on the App Store as “SocialFocus: Hide Distractions” and made by Yevhen Tretiakov, is a Safari extension for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It hides chosen parts of YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn and Gmail, such as YouTube's recommended videos, Shorts and comments, or Instagram and Facebook's feed, Reels and Stories. Its listing says it does not work with the apps, only with websites in Safari.

Pick SocialFocus if

  • you use social media in Safari and want to stay there;
  • you want to hide things minulo doesn't, such as YouTube comments or parts of Gmail;
  • you want one purchase that covers iPhone, iPad and Mac in Safari;
  • you prefer an app with more ratings behind it (327 in the US).

Pick minulo if

  • you need TikTok, Threads, Pinterest or Snapchat without the feed;
  • you want an app of its own rather than Safari, with the official apps locked so you open minulo instead;
  • you want hiding to be free;
  • you want a free setting that shows only DMs on Instagram or TikTok, or the app in a language other than English.

minulo shows each network's website rather than the official app, so screens look a little different from the app. While minulo locks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive. minulo is new and has few ratings so far.

Is minulo a good SocialFocus alternative?

If you want an app of its own rather than a Safari extension, or need TikTok, Threads, Pinterest or Snapchat, yes, and hiding is free. If you use social media in Safari and want fine control over each site, including YouTube comments and Gmail, SocialFocus does that for a $4.99 download.

Is SocialFocus free?

No. It costs $4.99 to download in the US, and an optional Pro subscription is $3.99 a month, $35.99 a year or $79.99 lifetime; its listing says Pro adds hotkeys, settings sync and other extras (checked 2026-11-04). In minulo, hiding Reels, Shorts and suggested posts is free, and Pro is $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year.

Does SocialFocus work in the Instagram or YouTube app?

No. Its App Store listing says it works only on websites in Safari, not in the apps (checked 2026-11-04). minulo doesn't change the official apps either, but it opens each network in its own app with Reels and Shorts hidden and can lock the official apps with Screen Time.
