Is there Instagram Lite for iPhone? What to use instead (2026)
minulo is the closest thing to Instagram Lite on iPhone if what you want is a simpler Instagram: it opens Instagram with Reels and Explore hidden while DMs keep working, and hiding is free.
Instagram Lite itself is an Android app. Google Play describes it as a fast and smaller version of Instagram from Meta, built for slower networks, less mobile data and less storage. When we searched the App Store in the US, Japan, Korea and India on 2026-11-01, Instagram, Inc. had apps such as Instagram, Threads and Edits there, but no Instagram Lite. We haven't measured minulo's data use, so we don't claim it saves data or storage.
- Install minulo from the App Store and open Instagram inside it.
- Log in on Instagram's own login page. minulo does not receive or store your password.
- Tap the gear next to Instagram and turn on Reels and Explore tabs, plus Suggested posts or Stories if you like. For messages only, turn on Every tab but DMs (free).
- In the Block tab, lock the official Instagram app with Screen Time, free for up to 2 hours per block. The block screen has an Open in minulo button.

What Instagram Lite is
On Google Play, Instagram Lite from Meta is described as a fast and smaller version of Instagram that performs well on slower networks, uses less mobile data and takes up less storage space. It is an Android app. On the iPhone App Store, our searches in four countries found Instagram, Inc. apps such as Instagram, Threads and Edits, and no app called Instagram Lite. Apps with Instagram in the name from other developers are not Meta's.
What people on iPhone do instead
Some delete the Instagram app and use instagram.com in Safari. DMs work there under Messages, but the website still has Reels and Explore, and notifications stop with the app. See using Instagram in Safari instead of the app.
If the reason you wanted Lite is fewer distractions rather than data, minulo is closer. It opens Instagram's own website inside the app and hides the parts you choose: Reels and Explore tabs, Suggested posts, Stories, or Every tab but DMs. You can change what is hidden at any time. Limits, so you can decide honestly: hidden parts are hidden only inside minulo, and the official apps don't change. While minulo blocks an official app, that app's notifications don't arrive, and minulo sends none of its own.
