Yes, DMs still reach your Instagram account, but the blocked app won't notify you. While minulo locks the official Instagram app, its notifications don't arrive, and you read and answer DMs inside minulo instead.
Apple describes Screen Time's Downtime as blocking apps and notifications, with only calls, messages and the apps you choose to allow available. minulo sends no notifications of its own, so while Instagram is locked you check your DMs by opening minulo.
- Install minulo, tap Add a service, choose Instagram and log in on Instagram's own login screen.
- Tap the gear next to Instagram and turn on Reels and Explore tabs, or Every tab but DMs.
- In the Block tab, allow Screen Time and choose the official Instagram app, free for up to 2 hours per block.
- Messages open straight from the minulo home screen. Tapping the Instagram icon shows a blocked screen with Open in minulo.

What happens to your messages
Blocking an app on your iPhone doesn't touch your Instagram account. Messages people send you are still delivered to your account and wait there. You can read them inside minulo, in a browser, or in the official app once the block ends. Blocking happens only on your iPhone, so nobody on Instagram is told.
What you lose is the alert. While minulo locks the official Instagram app, its notifications don't arrive, and minulo doesn't send any of its own. If you want to know whether someone wrote, open minulo and check Messages.
What Apple's Screen Time does
Apple's iPhone User Guide describes Downtime as a way to block apps and notifications for periods when you want time away. During Downtime, only calls, messages and apps you choose to allow are available. Apple also notes that by default Screen Time limits can be ignored once reached, and that turning on Block at Downtime makes restricted apps impossible to open during Downtime.
Apps you don't block keep working as usual. If your friends or family also use LINE, WhatsApp or iMessage, those keep notifying you while Instagram is locked.
If you need Instagram notifications
Some people rely on Instagram DMs for work, a club or a class group.
